Yaz Prince is an Indigenous Child and Family Services instructor with the Indigenous Perspective Society. She has 10 years of experience in child welfare, along with strong facilitation skills, and has spent 12 years serving in various roles within her First Nation. Her mother is from the McLeod Lake Indian Band (Tse’khene Carrier), and her father is from Trois-Rivières, Quebec. She currently lives on the Tsartlip First Nation territory, where she is raising her two teenage sons.
In 2003, Yaz participated in the PPP Indigenous Youth Exchange and spent a meaningful and life-changing exchange in Aotearoa (New Zealand) with a Māori Health Centre (Rauhura Huaora o Tainui), spending six months in Auckland and Waikato. This experience included work placement with a leading Māori mental health provider. She has maintained a strong interest in the Pacific and community-based work. As she shares, “I am a traveller at heart and a community-minded person, as identity and a sense of belonging in this world are important.”
